Licensing
What a license is
A license is permission to use the fonts in a defined way. It is bought once, for the styles and the uses named on the order, and it does not expire: there is no renewal and no subscription. Prices are final and include tax, so the amount shown is the amount charged. Every license sits under the same font license agreement, and the schedule for its category adds the scope, the measure and the files.
Which license
Pick a license for each way the fonts will be used, then a tier for the size of that use. Most work needs one or two: Desktop to design with, Web to put text on a site. A style can carry several licenses at once, and licensing one family under more than one category costs less than buying them apart.
Desktop
Desktop covers installing the fonts on computers and using them in any application: documents, logos, print, packaging, signage and static images. The tier counts the people who have the fonts installed, starting at 5 users. What comes out is never counted, so print runs and the number of copies are unlimited. Paid media is the exception, and it takes an Advertising license beside this one.
- Desktop license - Install the fonts on computers and make logos, print, documents and static graphics.
Web
Web covers self-hosting the fonts on the license holder's own sites and web apps, so text renders in the visitor's browser. The tier counts monthly visitors or monthly page views, whichever is already tracked, starting at 5,000 monthly visitors or 20,000 monthly page views. Staging and preview environments are included and count for nothing. A site that lets the public create and download work with the fonts, such as a design tool, is not covered and needs a separate arrangement.
- Web license - Self-host the WOFF2 files on the license holder's own websites and web apps.
App
App covers embedding the fonts in an application or a game, on any platform. One license covers one title across every platform it ships on. The tier counts monthly active users or total downloads, starting at 2,500 either way. An app that offers the fonts to its own users for making designs, documents or images, such as an editor or a template service, is not covered and needs a separate arrangement.
- App license - Embed the TTF files in the license holder's own applications and games.
Advertising
Advertising covers text set in the fonts inside paid media: display banners, paid social, video pre-rolls and sponsored placements. The tier counts monthly impressions, starting at 20,000. It adds rights rather than files, so it is sold for styles that already hold a Desktop license or are getting one on the same order.
- Advertising license - Use the fonts in paid digital advertising, measured by monthly impressions.
Broadcasting
Broadcasting covers film, television and streaming: titles, captions, graphics and on-screen text in one production, together with its trailers, posters and social material. Paid advertising for the production is the exception, and it follows the Advertising license. The tier reads either the production budget or the expected audience, whichever is tracked, starting at an audience of 25,000.
- Broadcasting license - Use the fonts in film, television and streaming productions.
OEM
OEM covers embedding the fonts in the firmware of a hardware device, so the device renders its own interface in them. One license covers one device model or product line and its firmware updates. The tier counts devices shipped, starting at 1,500.
- OEM license - Embed the fonts in hardware devices the license holder makes or sells.
Compare
Every license starts at the same price per style at the first tier, whichever category it is. What differs is the measure, the size the first tier covers, and the files that arrive.
| License | Measured by | First tier covers | Files | Requires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desktop | People with the fonts installed | 5 users | OTF | None |
| Web | Monthly visitors or page views | 5,000 monthly visitors or 20,000 monthly page views | WOFF2 | None |
| App | Monthly active users or downloads | 2,500 monthly active users or 2,500 downloads | TTF | None |
| Advertising | Monthly impressions | 20,000 monthly impressions | None | Desktop |
| Broadcasting | Production budget or audience | a budget of 25,000 USD or an audience of 25,000 | OTF | None |
| OEM | Devices shipped | 1,500 devices | OTF | None |
Tiers
Each license runs up a ladder of tiers, priced by the size of the use. A tier covers its own size and everything smaller, and one tier applies per license per family. A use far beyond the top tier is arranged by writing to [email protected].
Free styles
Some styles are marked free at the first tier of Desktop and Web. They can be claimed from an account, which produces a license certificate, or downloaded from the official GitHub release. Either way it is a full, perpetual license under the same agreement. Higher tiers and other licenses for these styles are paid. The free styles are Fragment Grand Regular, Fragment Grand Bold and Fragment Serif Regular.
- Free claim terms - The styles marked free on the font pages are free for Desktop and Web at tier 1, claimed in the store or downloaded from the official release, under the same agreement as a paid license.
Discounts
Two discounts apply in the cart, with no code to enter. Taking at least half of a family under one license discounts that part of the order, and taking the whole family discounts it further. Licensing one family under more than one category discounts every category except the largest. Free styles are never counted or charged, so claiming them cannot work against a discount. The cart shows what each discount takes off before anything is paid.
Upgrades
When a use outgrows its tier, write to [email protected] with the order reference and the new size. Only the difference is charged, and the new tier replaces the old one. A new kind of use, such as putting fonts bought for Desktop on a website, needs its own license, and the cross-license discount applies only within one order.
Formats
The comparison table shows which files each license delivers. Files are downloaded from the account that placed the order, and updated files appear in the same place.

Full terms
